United Judo of Tampa students,
Recently we were informed by a student who attends classes at another Judo club in addition to ours that he wasn't allowed to attend our classes if he was going to continue to train with them. This unfortunate scenario seems to go against a main principle of Judo, mutual welfare and benefit, and if this approach was reflected globally, there would only be one Judo club in the world (there are thousands). I would raise serious concerns about a club with this philosophy.
Our club has a much different approach. We encourage our students to train with other clubs and take in as much Judo experience as they desire. We encourage students to attend clinics, tournaments, joint practices - to watch videos, read books, and bring new ideas to our club. So if this type of club is something you can be proud of, we'll see you on the mat - bring a friend.
